Is it very unwise to buy a hotel for sale when it is sold because of lack of business?
Is it possible to increase income, if it was in a remote, urban location? Like all the ones for sale in Costa Rica, or on mountains?
In a nutshell, go ahead and buy it on one condition…. You need to know how to build AND promote a website.
I stayed at a DEAD B&B for two weeks with my family. My stay most definately made their month. At the end of it, they made $50/ day for 18 days, and referrals for finding us things like a long term rental. The owner made another thousand bucks from us on referrals.
I only say that because I like all of her two other guests found her place on the internet. Her web presence is terrible. I tweaked a few things on her site for SEO, and taught her how to advertise for no money. In two days she got three reservations, one of which was for 9 people. Post at Craigslist, daily!
If you can find people before they come to Costa Rica, I’d say you have a pretty good shot.
FYI: Having a maid to work at the hotel is cheap by US standards. I pay mine better than most people, about $1.90/ hour.
